Voir Dire

VOIR DIRE:: Voir Dire is part of the jury selection process. It is an oath administered to the potential juror where he or she swears to speak the truth. Voir Dire is also the examination of the potential juror to determine if a juror is prejudiced, biased or cannot not fairly ascertain the facts of the case. Some reasons that a potential juror may be excused include being an acquaintance of a party in the case, witness or attorney or being in an occupation which might lead to a bias.

Verdict

VERDICT:: A verdict is the answer or finding the jury provides the judge concerning the questions or matters given to them. The judge can then use the finding to determine a penalty or sentencing.

Venue

VENUE:: The venue is the county where a lawsuit should be filed and tried. In personal injury cases, the lawsuit should be filed where the defendant lives, where the defendant has their principal place of business or where the accident took place.

Trier of Fact

TRIER OF FACT:

The person(s) who will make the decision in a trial based on the evidence and decide the outcome of the case.This can be a judge, jury or arbitrator.
