Seattle police chase injures 3 on 520 floating bridge

Seattle's King5.com reports that the State Patrol conducted a high-speed chase of a stolen SUV which ended when the SUV rear-ended two vehicles on the Highway 520 floating bridge. Three people in the rear-ended vehicles were injured. The rear-ended cars, a Saab and a Subaru Outback, were so badly damaged that they had to be cut open to get two of the injured passengers out. All three people in the two cars that were hit were taken to the hospital with injuries, one with serious injuries.

The car chase began when Troopers saw an SUV driving against traffic on the I-5 ramp in Shoreline. They followed the SUV which travelled at speeds of up to 100 mph. The SUV then took the 520 East-ward towards Bellevue. The Troopers were able to arrest the driver of the SUV and he is being held on charges of DUI, automobile theft and possessing stolen goods.

Seattle, Washington bicyclist sues city for damages after injury accident

The Seattle Post-Intelligencer reports that Terry McMacken, a bicyclist who was seriously injured on the Ballard Bridge in Seattle has filed a lawsuit against the city for damages. McMacken, who lost his arm and shoulder at the collarbone and also suffered brain injuries was injured about a year ago, July 6, 2007. Approximately 140 bicyclists are injured each year in Seattle bicycle accidents.

His attorney said that cyclists have been complaining about the low guard rail on the Ballard Bridge for some time. A letter dated in August of 2004 warns the city, "It is just a matter of time before a bicyclist or pedestrian is injured or killed [on Ballard Bridge]."

According to the Seattle Transportation Department, the city plans to spend $240 million in the next 10 years to make bicycle riding in the city easier. They hope to increase both the safety for riders and the number of riders.

Mukilteo, Washington mayor hurt in water skiing accident

Seattle's King5.com reports that Joe Marine, Mulkiteo's mayor, was injured in a boating accident while water skiing on Lake Steven. The mayor was hurt when he hit a parked jet ski. According to the report, Mayor Marine suffered a serious puncture wound near his tailbone. He was taken to the hospital and is being treated with antibiotics.

The water skiing accident occurred on Saturday. Apparently Mayor Marine did not see the jet ski because it had a dark cover on it.

Seattle moped driver killed in accident with car

The Seattle Post-Intelligencer reports that a 39-year-old man driving a moped on East Montlake Place in Seattle, Washington crossed the center-line and died after a collision with a Honda Accord. It appears that the Moped driver lost control of his vehicle near the intersection of 24th Avenue East and East Miller Street. The moped driver hit the car windshield upon impact. He was taken to Harbor View Medical Center in Seattle where he pronounced dead of his injuries.

Police said speed and wet road conditions contributed to the accident.

Centralia, Washington teen killed by Amtrak train

The Seattle Times reports that a 15-year-old boy was hit and killed instantly by an Amtrak train at a pedestrian crossing in Centralia. The boy was riding his bicycle along with another boy on Saturday afternoon around 4:30 pm when the train accident happened. The other boy was following and was not injured. The accident occurred in the 600 block of South Tower Avenue.

The Amtrak train was traveling from Portland to Bellingham. The train was delayed for about 90 minutes after the accident. The Seattle Times article said that Centralia police are investigating.

Thurston County, Washington rollover car accident kills two men

The Seattle Post-Intelligencer reports that two Thurston County men were killed in a rollover single-car accident southwest of Olympia. Jeomy James Colson, 29, of Olympia and his passenger Aarron Dellane Heiser, 31, of Tumwater were thrown from the Jeep they were driving.

The accident occurred in the 8300 block of Waddell Creek road in the early morning hours. The State Patrol believe that speed and alcohol were the causes of the accident.

Kelso, Washington man in critical condition after motorcycle accident

Steven D. Marshall, 29, of Kelso is in critical condition at Oregon Health and Science University in Portland after crashing his motorcycle into an SUV reports The Daily News Online. The motorcycle accident occurred at the intersection of Minor Road and Mount Brynion Road in East Kelso.

Kelso Police Sergeant Darr Kirk, who was on patrol, said that Marshall sped past him on Mount Brynion Road at about 75mph in a posted 25mph zone.

Marshall was conscious but had severe injuries. He was wearing a helmet. The driver of the SUV, a man from Castle Rock, was not injured according to Kirk.

Portland, Oregon bicyclist is victim of road rage and is star of sensational video

Seattle's King5TV.com is showing a sensational video of a bicyclist on the hood of a car. The video, which was taken with a cell phone, shows a car driving at high speeds with a bicyclist holding on for dear life on the hood of the car. View the video.

The road rage incident happened on at the intersection of SE 58th Avenue and SE Washington Street in Portland, Oregon. The bicyclist, Jason Rehnberg, 37, yelled at a driver of a car to slow down. The driver, James Millican 21, became enraged and tried to hit the bicyclist with his car. After running over the bicycle, he tried to run over Rehnberg and two witnesses who were copying down his license plate number. Rehberg ended up on the hood of Millican's car and held on to the windshield wiper blades as the car careened around the neighborhood. Rehnberg was able to dismount at 60th Avenue.

Millican was arrested and is being charged with attempted assault, kidnapping, second degree attempted assault, driving under the influence of intoxicants, criminal mischief and reckless driving according to King5TV.com.

Rehnberg was not injured in the incident.

Tacoma, Washington man charged with homicide in hit-and-run pedestrian death

The Tacoma News Tribune reports that Pierce County prosecutors have filed vehicular homicide charges against Anthony Paul Cisco, 40, for the hit-and-run death of pedestrian Rebecca Ann Wilkie-Moore. Wilkie-Moore was killed as she walked home for lunch along Purdy Drive Northwest in Tacoma, Washington on Friday afternoon. Witnesses said that Cisco was driving erratically when he hit Wilkie-Moore. He stopped for a moment after he hit her and then sped off. A witness, Andy Schroeder, 25 , of Port Orchard helped police by following the Mazda that Cisco was driving and calling 911.

Wilkie-Moore as a newspaper carrier for The News Tribute and had worked for the paper for more than 10 years reported her supervisor, Bob Cowan. She was the mother of two.

When Cisco was arrested he appeared intoxicated and appeared to be "groggy and sleepy, " reports The News Tribune. Cisco has had a checkered past. He has an extensive criminal record including 11 felony convictions since 1985. His last conviction was in Pierce Country for heroin position.

A driver can be charged with vehicular homicide (RCW 46.61.520) in Washington State if a person dies as a result of negligent operation of a vehicle and the driver was driving recklessly, driving under the influence or driving without consideration for the safety of others.

When a driver is charged with vehicular homicide, the family of the person killed can bring a suit for wrongful death as well.

Port Angeles woman backs car up through restaurant and injures 3

Seattle's KOMO News.com reports that a 77-year-old Port Angeles woman, Maria Sands, accidentally backed up through the glass wall of the Fairmount Italian Restaurant, injuring three people seated at a restaurant table in an unfortunate pedestrian accident.

According to the report, Elisabeth Nicole Hagerman, 19, was taken to Olympic Medical Center in Port Angeles with internal bleeding and a broken arm. Her mother, Huberta Meadows 42, was treated and discharged from Olympic Medical Center. Juana Argyronpoulous, 50, was also treated and discharged.

Police are investigating the cause of the accident. The driver has no idea why she could not stop her car. She traveled a distance of over 200 feet when she ran through the restaurant window and into the diners.

Kirkland, Washington motorcyclist killed in accident in Seattle

The Seattle Times reports that a 35-year-old Kirkland man died in a motorcycle accident on Interstate 5 in Seattle in the early morning hours. The State Highway Patrol reports that the man hit a barrier at the Mercer Street exit and was killed at the scene. Police are investigating the accident.

Sultan head-on car accident injures 3

Seattle's KOMO TV reports that three people were injured in a head-on car accident near Sultan, Washington. The accident occurred after a 33-year-old Monroe man, who was driving without headlights on past midnight, crashed head-on into another car on Highway 2. The other car was knocked on its side.

The wrong-way driver said that he had consumed a six-pack of beer that evening . He was critically injured and airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. The two women in the other car did not appear as seriously injured. The driver of the other vehicle was taken to Harborview by ambulance. Her passenger was transported to Valley General Hospital in Monroe for treatment.

Washington State Law provides that a driver can be charged with vehicular assault if someone is seriously injured in a car accident if the driver was under the influence of alcohol or drugs. In the State of Washington, 0.08% is the legal limit for alcohol.

Getchell logging truck accident injures 6 as logs spill

The HeraldNet.com reports that six people were injured in a car accident after the SUV they were riding in swerved and rolled over into a ditch to avoid a load of logs that a logging truck had dropped. All six were taken to the hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

The log truck appeared to break apart, spilling its load. This is the second logging truck accident in the past week in Snohomish County. Cle Elum car accident kills 2, injures 3

Seattle's KomoNews.com reports that two people were killed and three people were injured in a one-car accident. Killed in the crash are Wayne Free, 63 of Cle Elum and his passenger, Alice Young, 86.

The three backseat passengers were all air-lifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for treatment of their injuries. The three backseat passengers were Jackie Knowlton, 58, Austin Knowlton, 10, and Justin Knowlton, 8. All three Knowltons are from Brewster. All three suffered head, neck and back injuries as well as internal injuries.

The accident occurred when the car driven by Free drifted off the road, hit an embankment, rolled over and caught fire about four miles east of Cle Elum on Highway 10.

Ray De Lorenzi writing for the American Associate for Justice reports that "Allstate ranks as the worst insurer for consumers" with their tactics of "Deny, Delay, Defend." The Association for Justice did an extensive review of legal documents and financial filings and ranked the 10 companies that "refuse to pay just claims, employ hardball tactics against policyholders, reward executives with extravagant salaries and raise premiums while hoarding excessive profits."

The Association says that Allstate has an aggressive strategy of denying claims at any cost. According to the Association, agents were rewarded with items like refrigerators for falsifying documents like claiming that a fire was arson.
