Portland city bus accident kills 2 pedestrians, injures 3 others

Two women were killed and three other people were injured in a pedestrian accident when a Portland, Oregon city bus struck a group of young adults reports The Portland Mercury.

The pedestrian accident occurred as TriMet bus driver, Sandi L. Day, was making a left turn onto Broadway from Gilsan street around midnight. A group of pedestrians were in the crosswalk and had the Walk signal when they were hit, according to the report.

One of those killed has been identified as Jenee Hammel, 26. The name of the other person that was killed has not been released pending notification of her family. Robert Gittings, 22, was critically injured. Jamie Hammel, 23, and Ryan Hammel, 28, suffered minor injuries.

Police are attempting to piece together the cause of the accident. They said that it does not appear that Day was under the influence of drugs or alcohol and they also do not believe that she was speeding.
