Teenage girl on cell phone by light rail train in Seattle

A teenage girl was injured in a pedestrian accident today in South Seattle when she was hit by the light rail trail while talking on her cell phone.

According to a report on KOMO News.com, the pedestrian v. train accident occurred at Martin Luther King, Jr. Way and Othello. Another report said that she suffered cuts and bruises on her eyes and legs and was taken to a hospital with “non life-threatening injuries.”

Some studies have shown that young people are injured more than other age groups by distracted walking. There have been anecdotal reports of pedestrians sustaining injuries including a concussion, fractured finger and sprains caused by accidents while walking and talking on a cell phone. Studies have shown that pedestrians can have “inattention blindness” when talking on a cell phone while walking.
