Newcastle man seriously injured in rear-end motor vehicle accident

A 35-year-old Newcastle man was seriously injured in a motor vehicle accident on Saturday night when the pickup truck he was driving was rear-ended by a car driven by a 25-year-old Issaquah woman causing his pickup truck to land in a ditch. The injured man was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for treatment of his injuries; he was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.

The force of the impact caused the Issaquah woman’s Ford Focus to flip onto its top. Police believe that the woman was speeding at the time of the accident. She was treated at the scene of the accident. Police suspect the woman may have been under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the accident. If this is the case, she could be charged with Vehicular Assault.

According to a report in Newcastle-News.com, the accident occurred on state Route 900 near 172nd Place Southeast, southwest of Issaquah around 11:30pm.

The Washington State Patrol is investigating the accident.
