Lynnwood pedestrian accident kills 1, injures teen while the two were walking on a sidewalk

The Seattle Post Intelligencer reports that a woman and a teenage companion were hit by a pickup truck while walking on a sidewalk in the 3300 block of 164th Street of Lynnwood, Washington . In this pedestrian accident, the unidentified woman suffered fatal injuries and her 16-year-old companion was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with “non life-threatening injuries.”

The accident occurred around 11:10 pm when a Ford pickup truck swerved off the road and onto the sidewalk, hitting the two pedestrians. The truck then rolled over. The driver of the truck was a 32-year-old Snohomish man and his passenger was a 26-year-old woman. They were both taken for treatment at Harborview.

Police are currently investigating the cause of accident said Capt. Kevin Prentiss of the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office. It is not known whether alcohol or drugs were involved.

Drivers who are involved in an accident that involves the death of a victim can be charged with vehicular homicide if it is determined they were under the influence of alcohol or drugs or if they were driving recklessly. In addition, the family of the victim may sue for damages under wrongful death.
