Bonney Lake, Washington sisters still suffering from injuries 2+ years after car accident

The Tacoma News Tribune published an article today about two sisters whose lives were changed after they were hit head-on by a drunk driver. Amanda Athey and Lydia Athey were almost killed by a drunk driver 2-1/2 years ago. Since the car accident, the sisters have had 11 surgeries between them and more are planned. They have spent time in wheelchairs and on crutches.

Amanda Athey has the ankle of a 65-year-old woman and will one day require an ankle replacement. The mobility in her foot is limited. She cannot stand for long periods of time.

Lydia Athey has steel rods and screws in her legs. She was unable to complete high school due to absences so she took the GED instead. She no longer can play volleyball and maybe missed out on a volleyball scholarship to college.

The article tells about how determined and positive the sisters are and their plans for their future. (Read the full text of The News Tribune article here.)

William Hominger of Bonney Lake was convicted of vehicular assault because he was driving drunk at the time of the accident and was trying to pass another car going 70 mph. He spent time in prison.

The story of these two courageous sisters is not unlike many stories of the victims we represent as personal injury attorneys. Personal injury attorneys care about their clients. We have seen far too many times how people are seriously injured or killed through the negligence of another person. Some injuries take years to heal, and some never heal.

As a personal injury attorney working with an accident victim, we have doctors and physical therapists who provide estimates on how much future care and rehabilitation a victim will require. Some victims need their house remodeled so that doors can be widened and counters lowered to accommodate a wheelchair. In other cases, the victim is on permanent disability and should be compensated for loss of wages. Some victims who have suffered a brain injury need extensive rehabilitation and a care giver. Victims need to be compensated for their past and future medical costs but also for the cost of rehabilitation and costs of accommodations required for living with their disability. Victims also need to be compensated for their pain and suffering.

Often the media portrays personal injury attorney in a negative light. At The Farber Law Group we work to insure that our clients are fairly compensated for their injuries. And, we represent our clients on a contingent fee basis, not charging any attorneys fees unless we collect compensation for you.
