Olympia, Washington car accident kills 1, injures two

The Olympian reports that a car accident on Sunday killed a passenger and injured the driver and another passenger. According to the report, a Honda Civic, driven by Richard A. Littlejohn, 22, of Olympia left the road way near Black Lake Boulevard and Division street and hit a utility pole in the early morning hours. Aaron Pickett, 24, of Lakewood, who was riding in the front passenger seat, was killed. The rear seat passenger, Sebastian Soto, 22, of Olympia was taken to Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia. His condition is unknown.

The driver of the car, Littlejohn, was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle where he was listed in critical condition.

Littlejohn had been arrested for driving under the influence just two weeks ago. Police believe alcohol may have played a factor in this accident and they are awaiting toxicology results.

Littlejohn has had a history of traffic infractions. He has been cited for speeding six times and also for negligent driving. If he was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of this accident, he may be charged with Vehicular Assault andVehicular Homicide.

According to vehicle code RCW 46.61.522, Vehicular Assault can be charged if someone is seriously injured while the driver is driving recklessly, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs or driving without the regard for the safety of others.

RCW 46.61.520 states that Vehicular Homicide can be charged if a person dies from the negligent operation of a vehicle including driving recklessly, driving under the influence or driving without the regard of safety of others.
