5-year old boy injured in West Seattle bicycle accident

The Seattle 911 blog written by Casey McNerthney reports that a 5-year-old West Seattle boy was hit by a van while riding his bicycle around 4:40 pm on Friday. The boy’s head apparently hit the concrete but it appears that he only suffered cuts and bruises and no serious injuries.

The bicycle accident happened at the 1600 block of Southwest Barton Street when the boy rode into the street from the sidewalk mid-block. The vehicle that hit the boy was a van driven by a 23-year-old person. Police said the van driver was not intoxicated and was not cited.

Comments to the blog reminded bicyclists to wear helmets and reflective clothing and lights at this time of day. Also, a child of the age of 5 years old should have constant adult supervision while bicycle riding.
