University of Washington student killed in New Zealand car accident

The Seattle Post-Intelligencer reports that a University of Washington senior, Celia Kelly, was killed in a head-on car accident in New Zealand. Two other students, Marie Salmi and Jessica Gowen, were seriously injured in the collision.

The students had been studying and performing scientific experiments on UW’s research ship, RV Thomas V. Thompson on an oceanography cruise. The students were onshore doing some sight seeing when they were involved in a car accident on State Highway in Maroa, New Zealand.

In addition to her studies at the University of Washington, someone posted on the P-I blog that Kelly had been a Seattle Aquarium volunteer.
