Yakima woman injured, man jailed for vehicular assault after car accident

The Yakima Herald.com reports that Brandon Butler, age 31, of Yakima was seriously injured in a two-car accident on Wednesday night at Branch Road and Highway 97. Butler suffered serious injuries after a car driven by Gary Peters, age 36, also of Yakima, ran through a stop at the highway intersection and hit Butler.

According to the report, Butler was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle where she is in intensive care. Peters was arrested for vehicular assault because the Washington State Patrol said they believe he was under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Vehicular assault can be charged if a person suffers serious injuries in a car accident and the driver was under the influence, driving recklessly or without regard to the safety of others.

A passenger in Peters’ car, Raymond Tallmen, age 36, also of Yakima was not injured. Both vehicles were totaled in the accident.
