Man killed, son critically injured in Snohomish County head-on car accident near Oso

An Arlington-area man was critically injured and his father was killed when the car they were driving near Oso in Snohomish County crossed the centerline and into the path of an oncoming dump truck.

Thomas Wheeler, age 27, was driving the Buick Skylark east on Highway 30 near Oso around 5:15am when he crossed the double line. He suffered “life-threatening injuries” including burns and a severe leg injury. He was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for treatment. Officers speculate that Wheeler may have fallen asleep at the wheel due to the early morning hour and the lack of skid marks made by the Buick.

Killed in the car accident was Wheeler’s father, Keith Wheeler, age 49. He had been sitting in the passenger seat when the car accident occurred.

The dump truck driver was John Meyers, age 42, of Darrington. Meyers applied the brakes but he could not avoid the Buick. There was no mention in The Seattle Times whether Meyers was injured.
