Insurance Institute gives 3 small cars “Top Safety Pick Award”

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety announced that the 2010 Honda Insight, 2010 Kia Soul and the 2010 Toyota Prius earned their Top Safety Pick award.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety is an independent, nonprofit, scientific and education organization dedicated to reducing car accident deaths and injuries and reduce property damage due to motor vehicle accidents.

To earn the award, a car must receive the highest rating of “Good” in front, side and rear crash tests and also be equipped with electronic stability control.

Frontal crash tests measures driver injury and driver-side occupant compartment intrusion. Side impact crash tests measures structure, driver injury and passenger injury. Rear crash tests measures protection that head restraints provide.
