Man charged with ‘vehicular assault’ in I-5 accident that injured man fixing flat tire

Guillermo Garcia-Hernandez has been charged with vehicular assault in the accident that critically injured a 27-year-old man who had stopped on the shoulder of Interstate 5 in Tacoma to fix a flat tire. The victim was thrown 50′ feet in the accident and suffered life-threatening injuries.

The Tacoma News Tribune reports Garcia-Hernandez is suspected of being under the influence at the time of the accident. Vehicular Assault, RCW 46.61.522, can be charged if a person is seriously injured by a driver who is under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
