Woman charged in Highway 2 hit-and-run pedestrian accident

The Everett Herald-Net reports that Teresa Ort has been charged with felony hit-and-run driving in the pedestrian accident death of Paula Stierns. Stierns was walking on U.S. Route 2 near Sultan after a day of fishing with her husband when Teresa Ort struck her with her Suzuki Vitara on October 9 of 2009. Stierns died of brain and neck injuries.

Ort said that she did not realize that she had hit a person but thought she had hit garbage that had fallen from a truck. Ort admitted that she had been drinking before the accident.

Police investigator Al Baker, of the Snohomish County sheriff’s office, tracked down Ort after finding pieces of a fender under Stiern’s clothing and were able to track down Ort’s car.
