Kia Forte garners another TOP SAFETY Pick award for Hyundai Motors

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has just awarded the Kia Forte, a new small car by Hyundai motors, their Top Safety Pick Award. Previously, the Kia Soul and the Hyundai Sonata also received the award.

The Top Safety Pick award is given to vehicles that earn the top rating of Good for front, side, rollover, and rear impact protection and also come equipped with electronic stability control (ESD). Crash tests include:

  • 40 mph frontal offset crash tests which assesses a vehicle’s structural design
  • Side crash tests which assesses how well occupants of a vehicle would fair in an accident in which the vehicle was hit in the side by an SUV or pickup truck
  • Rollover ratings which assesses the vehicle’s roof strength and how it well protected passengers would be in a rollover motor vehicle accident
  • Rear crash protection/head restraint ratings assesses how well seat/head restraints protect against whiplash injury
  • Electronic stability control (ESD) helps prevents accidents, especially single-car accidents, caused when drivers make emergency maneuvers.
