Puyallup woman killed in pedestrian accident

A 69-year-old Puyallup woman, Merita Gayares, was killed this morning in a pedestrian accident around 9am on South Hill in Tacoma.

According to a report in The News Tribune, a pickup truck driven by a 19-year-old man, Edgardo Solorzano of Bonney Lake, working for a Puyallup car dealership, hit Gayares as he pulled out of a business complex in the 12200 block of Meridian Avenue.

Police said that speed, drugs and alcohol were not factors in the pedestrian accident. The driver of the pickup truck may be cited for failing to yield to a pedestrian.

It is not known whether driver inattention was a factor in the pedestrian accident.
