Head-on car accident kills elderly couple when car crosses centerline

A Grandview couple, Abelino Ayala Saucedo, 77, and Margarita Saucedo, 76, were killed when the car they were riding in was involved in a head-on car accident near Grandview as they were being driven to their 50th wedding celebration. Neither were wearing safety belts at the time of the Grandview motor vehicle accident.

According to the Yakima Herald.com, the couple were riding in a car being driven by Maria D. Arreguin, 44 of Grandview, when it crossed the centerline on Forsell Road near North Forsell Road and hit a Chevrolet Tahoe driven by Angela Marie Ott, 32, head-on.

Arreguin was seriously injured in the car accident and was taken to the intensive care unit of Sunnyside Community Hospital.

Four people in the Tahoe suffered minor injuries and were treated and released including the driver of the Tahoe, Angela Marie Ott, 32, and passengers Taylor Colson, 14, Kylie Colson, 12, and Jordon Colson, 10. Reagan Colson, 12, of Toppenish suffered a fractured arm in the accident.

The two car-accident is currently under investigation but police do not believe alcohol or drugs were factors.

Unfortunately the Saucedo’s were not wearing seat belts at the time of the accidents. When used properly, seat belts reduce the risk of fatalities to front seat passenger occupants by 45%. It is estimated that 17,000 lives every year could be saved by wearing a seat belt.
