Driver faces vehicular assault charges after 3 injured in Yelm single car accident

Chad A. Berry, 26, of Olympia faces charges of vehicular assault after being involved in a single car accident in Olympia in which he and his two passengers were injured.

The Olympian reports that Berry was driving his 2002 Toyota Celica on Yelm Highway when his car left the road and struck a tree.

According to the report, Berry and his passenger Ryan C. Boyd, were taken to Providence St. Peter Hospital with undisclosed injuries. Another passenger, Jared G. Boyd, 27, was more seriously injured and was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

Police believe that speed and alcohol or drugs were factors in the accident. If this is the case, Berry faces charges of vehicular assault.

Vehicular assault, Washington vehicle code RCW 46.61.522, can be charged if a person is seriously injured in a motor vehicle accident and the driver was under the influence of alcohol or drugs, driving recklessly or driving with disregard to the safety of others.
