Most automobile accidents are caused by driver error. Previously only seen in high-end automobiles, Adaptive Cruise Control has a radar which “compares closing distance and speed with objects in the car’s path.” If the car’s computer thinks you’re on the path to rear-end another car, it will warn you with red lights projected on your windshield and sound an alarm so that you can adjust your driving. If you still are on that collision path, the Collision Warning System precharges your car’s brakes in preparation for a sudden stop.
The Collision Warning system give a driver between 1.5 to 2.5 seconds to avoid a crash.
Along with the “MyKey” — a teenage driver safety device — it seems like the next generation of autos will work smarter and be safer.
