A 16-year-old Lakes High School student in Lakewood, Washington suffered minor injuries after being hit by a car in front of the high school. The student, who was not named, was taken to Tacoma General Hospital for treatment of facial cuts.
According to the Tacoma News Tribune, the teenager was in the crosswalk around 6:45 am when he was hit. The driver, a woman, did not see him because he was wearing dark clothing.
According to the National Safety Council, nearly 100,000 pedestrians are injured a year and approximately 5,900 killed. The statistics show that children and the elderly are more likely to be injured or killed in a pedestrian accident.
