Orting woman seriously injured in car accident caused by suspected drunk driver

The Washington State Patrol reports that Robert M. Phillips, age 54 of Tacoma, may be charged with Vehicular Assault after he was involved in a motor vehicle accident that seriously injured a woman in another vehicle.

The report said that Phillips lost control of his Chevy Pickup truck as he entered northbound SR 167 and went into the southbound lane where he was hit by an oncoming 1989 Nissan Pickup truck driven by Peggy A. Anderson, 59, of Orting.

Anderson suffered minor injuries in the motor vehicle accident but her passenger, Marilyn Parhan, age 67 of Orting, suffered serious head injuries in the accident. Both women were taken to Tacoma General Hospital for treatment.

Phillips has been arrested driving under the influence. He may be charged with Vehicular Assault. Vehicular Assault, RCW 46.61.522, can be charged if a person is seriously injured in a motor vehicle accident caused by a drunk driver. In Washington state, the legal limit for driving under the influence is 0.08%.
