The Tacoma Daily Index reports that the Tacoma Pierce County DUI Task Force conducted an “emphasis patrol” on State Routes 512 and 7 and on Meridian and 176 streets on January 3rd. They selected highways and roads where there have been an excessive number of motor vehicle accidents.
According to the report, the task force issued 288 speeding tickets, 183 tickets for unsafe driving including aggressive driving, driving with a suspended license or for teenagers violating intermediate license restrictions.
Speed reduction on these highways and roads has been the focus of the Washington Traffic Safety Commission along with the task force. Other participating police agencies included: Fircrest, Fife, Tacoma, Bonney Lake, Sumner, University Place, Roy, Dupont, Lakewood and Puyallup Police Departments in conjunction with the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department.
