Port Angeles area head-on car accident kills grandmother, grandson and injures newlyweds

A grandmother and grandson were killed and a newlywed couple were injured in a head-on car accident Sunday afternoon on Highway 112 west of Port Angeles.

According to a report on Seattle’s KOMO News.com, Port Angeles residents Mary Wyman, 60, and her grandson Theodin Nelson, 6, were driving east when Wyman’s Subaru went off the road and she apparently over-corrected, crossed the centerline and hit a Toyota driven by James Dickens.

Wyman and Nelson were both killed in the car accident.

Joshua Dickens and his wife, Emily, were both injured, Emily critically. Both Dickens were taken to Olympic Medical Center in Vancouver, WA and then Emily Dickens was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. According to the report, Dickens underwent surgery and suffered lacerations to her spleen and liver and a spinal fracture. The couple had been married only six days and were on their honeymoon.

The report said that all people involved in the motor vehicle accident were wearing seat belts and that Theodin Nelson was in a child booster seat.
