Tacoma woman injured in multi-car accident on I-5

A 51-year-old Tacoma woman was injured in a car accident on Interstate 5 near the 72nd Street exit in Tacoma around 1:25am Sunday morning. The woman was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital for treatment; her injuries appear to be serious but not life-threatening.

The multi-car accident occurred when several cars were slowed and stopped at a construction site when a Isuzu Trooper driven by a 22-year-old Lakewood man rear-ended one vehicle, causing a chair-reaction car accident reports Seattle’s KOMO News.com.

The Washington State Patrol have arrested the Lakewood man and may charge him with Vehicular Assault. They said that he was speeding and may have been driving under the influence at the time of the accident. Washington Vehicle Code RCW 46.61.522, Vehicular Assault, can be charged if someone was seriously injured in a car accident and the driver was driving recklessly, driving without regard for the safety of others or driving under the influence of alcohol or drug.
