The Seattle Post-Intelligencer reports that two residents of Longview, Washington were hit and killed in a pedestrian accident while walking in Pacific City, Oregon on Saturday. The driver of the car that hit them died after his vehicle plunged into the Nestucca River. His passenger managed to escape the car after it went into the river.
Killed in the accident were Zachary Waddle, 25, and Libby Davis, 26, both of Longview. The pair were staying at the Riverview Lodge located on the Nestucca River. The two were walking or standing on Resort drive when they were struck.
The driver of the car was James Hernandez, 22, of Hebo, Oregon and he was found still buckled into the driver’s seat of his vehicle. His passenger, Charles Green, 22, also of Hebo, was able to escape the vehicle after it plunged into the river and he was found on the road and was taken to Samaritan North Lincoln Hospital. His condition is unknown.
According to the report, speed and alcohol contributed to the crash.
