WSP trooper injured in car accident caused by suspected drunk driver on I-5

A Washington State Patrol trooper was injured after a suspected drunken driver crashed into his patrol car as it was parked on the right shoulder of southbound Interstate 5 in Seatac on Saturday night reports Seattle’s

According to the report, the trooper was responding to several 911 calls reporting a possible DUI driver and was parked when Julio Martins-Paes, 44 of Seattle, crossed several lanes of traffic and plowed into the parked patrol car.

The patrol man was taken to the hospital for treatment of his injuries. Martins-Paes was seriously injured and was taken to the hospital for treatment; he will be charged with driving under the influence. In Washington state the intoxication standard for DUI is 0.08 percent.

KOMO News reports that Martins-Paes was driving while his license was suspended because of a prior DUI conviction.
